The Tumbling program at Damon's CTA focuses on some of the more exciting and fun aspects of gymnastics. The classes concentrate on teaching the correct way to perform these skills in a safe environment with the proper progression. Strength, agility and flexibility training are stressed in these classes since they are imperative for learning and executing proper tumbling technique. Class ratios do not exceed 8:1. The following is a brief description of each class. Prerequisites are designed to maintain student placement in order to facilitate effective learning in proper progression.
BACK HANDSPRING CLASS - (ages 5 yrs and up)
This class is designed to provide students with a quicker and more direct approach to learning the back handspring. They are given many drills that will progressively help them to overcome their fear, build their strength, and gain their confidence in order to perform the back handspring correctly. Students will also work on the proper technique for round-offs which will help them to incorporate their round-offs with their back handsprings. The class ration is 8:1. Class time is 1 hour.
BACK TUCK CLASS - (ages 5 yrs and up)
This class is designed to provide students with a quicker and more direct approach to learning the back tuck. They are given many drills that will progressively help them to overcome their fear, build their strength, and gain their confidence in order to perform the back tuck correctly. Students should have a solid back handspring by themselves and will work on the proper technique for round- offs and back handsprings which will help them to incorporate any combination of their round-offs and back handsprings with their tucks. The class ration is 8:1. Class time is 1 hour.
BEGINNER CHEER/TUMBLE - is an introductory level to the cheer classes we offer. No previous experience required.
This class is designed to develop the fundamentals in order to give the students the best possible opportunity to progress through the program. The objective of the beginner class is to familiarize the student with the correct body positions that are used in cheerleading and tumbling. They are introduced to the back handspring in this class and are given drills that are direct components to the back handspring. Students will also do jump and motion training. Those interested need no prior training or experience to participate in this class. The goal of the Beginner class is to lay the foundation for the program where the student will be able to move up through the system ultimately achieving well beyond their original expectations.
NOVICE CHEER/TUMBLING - is the second level of cheer classes we offer. Students participating in this class must already be able to perform a standing back handspring and round-off back handspring without a spot.
This class continues to develop the fundamentals and also adds skills that are more difficult. Students will work on perfecting standing and round-off back handsprings with emphasis placed on power, technique and correct body position. They are introduced to back handspring series and back tucks. The goal of the Novice class is to continue developing the skills they have learned while helping them build their confidence and physical ability to do these skills on their own. Jumps, motions and other tumbling skills will be an intricate part of class.
INTERMEDIATE CHEER/TUMBLING - is the third level of cheer classes we offer. The required skills for this class are a round-off back handspring tuck and a round-off back handspring series (3) tuck without a spot.
This class focuses on advanced skills of cheerleading and tumbling. The objective of the Intermediate class is to have the students begin to acquire a combination of advanced skills. They are introduced to whips and the layout. The goal of this class is to develop the advanced skills and the combination skills so the student has an arsenal of different passes to perform at events such as school games, competitions, exhibitions, etc.
ADVANCED CHEER/TUMBLING - is for more advanced cheerleaders who have a solid background in tumbling. The required skills for this class are a round-off back handspring series (3) tuck and a round-off back handspring layout without a spot.
The objective of the Advanced class is to improve the skills they already have and work on the most difficult skills possible. They are introduced to fulls, double full twists and front tumbling. The goal of this class is to develop the advanced skills and the combination skills so the student has an arsenal of different passes to perform at events such as school games, competitions, exhibitions, etc.
